Terminology

Before presenting The Negative Sudoku Dot System, let's agree on terminology:

• A cell is a single space, or square, available to a single number.
• A box is a nine-by-nine set of cells. There are nine boxes, arranged like the numbers on a telephone. Box one is in the upper-left-hand corner. Box eight is in the middle of the bottom row.
• A row is a horizontal set of cells, one cell high, nine cells wide. There are nine rows. Row three is highlighted.
