Terminology
Before presenting The Negative Sudoku Dot System, let's agree on terminology:
- A cell is a single space, or square, available to a single number.
- A box is a nine-by-nine set of cells. There are nine boxes, arranged like the numbers on a telephone. Box one (highlighted green) is in the upper-left-hand corner. Box eight (highlighted blue) is in the middle of the bottom row.
